Blogging Overview

I thought that blogging was alright.  It was at least a very easy 30 points.  I did like that we were able to do them whenever we had time for them.  The topic that I liked the least was the one with the song lyrics.  I didn't like it because it was very hard to find songs.  I don't think that I learned very much from blogging but I was able to remind myself of some details from class.  I did like the topics that were thinking questions or opinion questions.  I liked them because they were easy but also interesting to blog about and see other people from the class opinions.

1920's music

It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing
(doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah)
It don't mean a thing all you got to do is sing
(doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah)
It makes no difference
If it's sweet or hot
Just give that rhythm
Everything you've got
It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing
(doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah)
It don't mean a thing all you got to do is sing
(doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah)
It makes no difference
If it's sweet or hot
Just give that rhythm
Everything you've got
It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing
(doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah, doo-ah)

It makes no difference
If it's sweet or hot
Just give that rhythm
Everything you've got
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing
It don't mean a thing all you got to do is sing
(doo-ah)
It makes no difference
If it's sweet or hot
Just give that rhythm
Everything you've got
Don't mean a thing all you've gotta do is swing
It don't mean a thing all you've gotta do is sing
It makes no difference
If it's sweet or hot
Give that rhythm
Everything you've got
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing
(doo-ah, dooooo-aaaaah)
Don't mean a thing

This is "It Dont Mean A Thing If You Ain't Got That Swing" by Duke Ellington.  I thought it related because it was a dancing song that was popular and it reminded me of the parties at Gatsby's house.
Beat-up little seagull
On a marble stair
Tryin' to find the ocean
Lookin' everywhere

Hard times in the city
In a hard town by the sea
Ain't nowhere to run to
There ain't nothin' here for free

Hooker on the corner
Waitin' for a train
Drunk lyin' on the sidewalk
Sleepin' in the rain

And they hide their faces
And they hide their eyes
'Cause the city's dyin'
And they don't know why

Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live, just to live

Get my sister Sandy
And my little brother Ray
Buy a big old wagon
Gonna haul us all away

Livin' in the country
Where the mountain's high
Never comin' back here
'Til the day I die

Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live, just to live

This is "The Baltimore" by Randy Newman.  It also was a dancing song from the 20's and reminded me of the parties in Gatsby's house.

Stephen Crane Poetry

Black riders came from the sea. by Stephen Crane
Black riders came from the sea.
There was clang and clang of spear and shield,
And clash and clash of hoof and heel,
Wild shouts and the wave of hair
In the rush upon the wind:
Thus the ride of sin.
This was a poem by Crane that I found online.  I think it shows how Crane felt about war and that he felt it was a bad thing.  In his opinion it shows that he thought it was a sin.  It shows a very naturalistic view of war though because it shows the beauty of war while contrasting the horror.  He does this by talking of the wind and the waves and then also showing the clash of weapons and shields.

Mark Twain Blog

"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything."
Mark Twain
I found this quote on the internet and I think that it correctly illustrates how lying affects what you have to do.  Because if you lie you have to remember what and how you lied about something so that you don't get caught up in your lies.  This also shows how telling the truth is a good thing that is not always followed in today's society.  This is sad but it is true in many things you see today.  Our culture and media have made it seem like its no big deal and that it doesn't hurt anyone so why does it matter.

Civil Rights Blog

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/jimcrow/stories_events_plessy.html

This website shows talks about Jim Crow Laws.  These laws were important to Sadie and Bessie and made it so this is why I put this as being relevant.  This website talks about the Plessy V. Ferguson case where the Supreme Court handed down the ruling of separate but equal in the case of different facilities for blacks and whites. This was later overruled but it took quite some time to fix.

Walk Through Harlem Blog

When I visited this site I saw some interesting info that I didn't know.  One of the things was that I think that the dentist office is on 7th street across from the red brick building.  Another one of the dots took me to a thing on African American baseball teams.  I love sports and I play baseball so this one was actually somewhat interesting to me.  Another one took me to a famous African American boxer who won very many fights.  Both of these interested me because they were about sports and competition.

Tom Feeling's Artwork

This is a picture drawn to illustrate the facts about the Midlle Passage.  This shows just how painful the experience was.  It shows slaves faces on the front of the ship.  This shows how when they get where they are going it is going to be an awful place.  It also can illustrate how rough the trip was on the way over to the West Indies and America.

Having My Say

I saw that a kid died in Michigan after collapsing following a basketball game.  This is really sad and seems to happen way too often.  I do kind of wish that ESPN would quit showing it so much and just let the school and his family have some peace with the whole thing.  The only good thing to come out of this is that it will raise awareness possibly about this whole thing.

Whitman Blog

This poem shows us how society really effects how everyone, especially children act.  It shows us that as we see things going on we change to be more like everyone else.  It also shows us that everything that a child sees effects who they become as a person.  This is sad because the media doesnt always show things that are good impact.  When a child sees this it effects how they grow and who they become.

Anti-Transcendentalists

I like the anti-transcendentalists better because they have a more real look at the world.  They see all views of the world and it makes it more realistic.  I think if you don't look at both the positive and negative views of the world that you will have something wrong with you and won't have as clear of a perspective on the world.  This is why I like reading things from anti-transcendentalists better.
